Yesterday it was raining, a lot and quite hard. I had sympathy for the Rainbow Lorikeet sheltering in our bird feeder trying to keep dry and wait till the rain had passed. Something interesting had caught my eye though and when the rain did eventually subside I went and had a closer look.
This is an old tree stump, left over from a dying tree I cut down 2 years prior. It been standing out there all this time and never noticed it. Its amazing where life finds a foothold and just starts to group. How and why these particular things are growing here is odd but my suspicion is seeds from the bird feeder have been flung during a feeding frenzy and got lodged between the bark and the core. Along comes the right conditions like the rain and bingo.
